In this video English lesson, part of my Daily Dose of English series from 2010-2011, I look at On
Md. Hakim Uddin from Bangladesh has asked about the different uses of the preposition on. Well, I can be on a bus, on a train, on a boat and on a plane. I can also be on a bike. But I can’t be on a car. We are in a car. I can also be on a hill, on a mountain, on a river, on the ocean and on the roof. As you can see, on is used to say that one thing is physically on another thing. But on can also be used for things that are not physical in the sense that you could stand on them.
